On 29 August 1943, the Danish policy of cooperation with the Germans finally collapsed, and Denmark took its place firmly in the Allied camp.
The internment of the Danish army and the sinking of the Danish navy on 29 August have since stood as iconic images of the collapse of the policy of cooperation, but in reality the collapse began a month earlier - and spread like a wave of popular protests from Odense to Esbjerg, Aalborg, Nyborg and Korsør, before ending in the capital.
In AUGUST 1943, Simon Ankjærgaard tells the dramatic and often forgotten story of the Danes' defiance across the country in the form of both sabotage and large demonstrations. This is done on the basis of some of the main characters in the various cities. The
